Marion Swimmers Impress at Home During 2025 Australian Trials
The 2025 Australian Swimming Trials have wrapped up at our home pool, the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC), and what a week it was for the Marion Swimming Club!
Our squad of 21 swimmers took to the water, posting personal bests, earning finals spots, and securing Australian Dolphins team selections for the World Championships in Singapore. From seasoned Olympians to first-time qualifiers, every athlete played their part in an unforgettable week for our club.
Australian Team Selections and Standout Moments
The trials produced several headline performances for Marion on the national stage:
Kyle Chalmers was unstoppable, claiming second in the 50m Freestyle (PB 21.68) and victory in the 100m Freestyle, before closing his meet with an Australian Allcomers Record in the 50m Butterfly. His performances earned him selection for the Australian Dolphins Team in all three events, a result Kyle described as his “best trials ever.”
Matt Temple, the “Flying Mullet,” stormed home in his signature 100m Butterfly to secure victory and book his ticket to Singapore. Competing in front of a home crowd, Matt called SAALC “the best pool in Australia, probably the world.”
Rowan Crothers (S10) also earned his place on the Australian Dolphins Para Team, with standout performances in the 50m and 100m Freestyle MC events.
Jasmin Fullgrabe delivered one of the standout swims of the meet, taking second place in the 200m IM MC final and smashing her previous personal best by more than two seconds.
Clancy Luscombe earned his spot in the A Final of the 200m Backstroke, continuing an excellent week that included multiple PBs.
And special congratulations to Coach Shaun Curtis, who has been selected for his first Australian Dolphins coaching appointment.
Strong Performances Across the Board
Beyond the podium, our entire squad brought passion, teamwork, and determination to every race. Across the meet, our swimmers delivered an impressive tally of PBs and finals appearances, proof of the depth of talent in our program.
